All I can say is the Air America pilot I know said he and all his comrades hate it with a passion. He flew C-46s and C-45s mostly.

I met an Air America Helio Courier pilot at the Fredericksburg event. Said they were flying all kinds of stuff in very tight spots. Wish I could've talked to him for a couple of hours. Would've been very interesting.

The current issue of Flight Journal - the one with the controversial Yeager article - also has a great yarn about an Air America crew and their somewhat unusual encounter with an Antonov biplane.

It was good to read the stories also. They brought back a lot of memories. I was "fortunate" to spend 1967 and part of 1968 in the area: NKP, Udorn and Ubon. Hard to believe it has been over 40 years ago. I didn't see any mention of the Pilatus Porter which was used quite a lot also. I was always amazed as to its take off performance, especially when it was loaded with rice and other supplies for the Lao people.
