Looking for info on Col. Don Blakeslee 4th FG

Fri Dec 05, 2008 10:34 pm

I have been researching Col Blakeslee's time with the 4th Fighter Group and I was wondering if anyone on the board had any reading recommendations on him. Apparently no biography is out there but I find his story interesting and would like to learn more of his time in the Eagle Squadron, especially with regards to his push for P51 Mustangs and then his leadership in transitioning some of the other groups to the Mustang as well as leading a Russian Shuttle mission.

Thanks

Hmmm, don't see a bio out there on him except for those embedded in unit histories(at least not that I've found). That is a shame, but probably goes along with his attitude of teamwork and not taking personal credit!

Lots of good sites out there with info, just a matter of digging through them. Perhaps a bio of some of the pilots around him will get more insight into Blakeslee himself.

Frank Olynyk's Stars and Bars has a decent bio of Blakeslee - good place to start

if you can find a copy of 1000 Destroyed it is a very good read, not only about Blakeslee, but the 4th in general.
