Buried German Aircraft

Sat Dec 06, 2008 12:53 pm

Always a favorite topic on this forum in the past. :D

Photographic evidence of a aircraft burial pit of German aircraft. Although I don't think any airframes could be salvaged intact but perhaps several more robust structures such as engine blocks and landing gear might be retrieved. With a pit like that there might be enough good parts to serve a forms for future replica aircraft.

Providing that the locals didn't dig it all up to sell as scrap to keep food on the table in the immediate post war German economy, maybe Tanta's oatmeal pan had 35 missions to England in a previous life-

If I recall correctly, the location of this pit was identified and it had been cleaned up by post-war salvage operations, unfortunately.
