It is with great sadness that I call to your minds Maj. General Davy Jones - Doolittle Raider, POW survivor, and MUCH more - who passed away today.

He was a tunneler in the "Great Escape". Him and all the rest of the AAF personel were placed in their own US compound at Sagan before the escape took place.

He was quite the character. He met up with us in Houston in '06...seems like yesterday. He flew with us on Tondelayo and it was a tremendous honor. Very down to earth and 'matter of fact'...he graciously entertained anyone that wanted to talk to him.

Thanks for calling this to our attention.
Its a sad day to lose another hero. He did have a long life to which we can all be thankful
for his service and his memories over the years. The worlds a better place because of
their bravery and actions.

Wow...I was just at NMUSAF yesterday, counting the number of Doolittle Raider goblets still upright. Looks like another will soon be inverted.

I remember meeting Mr. Jones at the Raider Reunion last year in San Antonio...

DA*N, DAM*, DA*N! Of all the Doolittle raiders surviving, he is the one of the ones I most wanted to meet. I live up in the NE, and most of the survivors live down in Texas and west, from what I understand... I have been trying to get down to one of the reunions for years, but time, and finances have always precluded it. I want to meet at least one or two of them before they head to the final recall, and Gen. Davy Jones was at the top of my list. I had read of him in "Thirty Seconds..", as well as a good deal of his history in Sagan in various POW books. I had and still have a great deal of respect for him.
This year's reunion is in Columbia, SC- I will have to find space in my calendar, and funds from wherever, to make it.
Godspeed, General Jones! Remember us all to the Raiders at the final Roll Call! I'm sure Jimmy Doolittle has the hotel already stocked in Heaven, and the manager is as understanding as in Florida...

Received this E-mail via the Yellow Rose Sqd.
We have lost two of the surviving Doolittle Raiders in the past two days, that leaves only nine of the eighty Airmen that were part of the Raid still living.
Maj Gen Davey M Jones passed away at his home in Tuscon, AZ yesterday, 25 November 2008, in the early afternoon. The reason is unknown at the present. He was carrying groceries into the Kitchen and fell and hit his head. It was either a heart attack or the blow to his head.
Msgt Ed Horton, Jr. passed away this morning at his home in Ft. Walton Beach, FL. Ed had been in the hospital in FWB but came home last weekend. His passing was due to natural causes. He had been fighting a number of aliments since his auto wreck about six weeks ago.
Our prayers go out to their family and friends.
