While walking the dog this afternoon (no, really) I glanced at a bit of random junk mail on the pavement (sidewalk) and realised it featured a Hellcat nose and wheel. Good at pattern recognition? I think so...

Very oddly, despite the dog and I (and the flyer) being in Melbourne, Australia, it was an invite to a photo show at the Southeast Museum of Photography, Daytona Beach - clearly a flyer for some far-flung alumnus of Daytona State Collage.

To the point. It features the art of Magnum photographer Wayne Miller, from his book Photographs 1942-1958

A couple of examples:

Even in the middle of a war with 1940s equipment, on a ship, he's taken (IMHO) more powerful photographs than many of today's photographers in the field can manage. (Something to note for those that think 'embedded' journalists are a new thing.) And he had other things to cover too:

Worth a look. Anyone in Daytona Beach, let us know, eh?

Regards,

He was one of the photographers Edward Steichen recruited into the Navy for his special photographic unit.

Very interesting photos. I feel for that TBM gunner.
