Google Image Search now incorporates the LIFE Magazine photo archives, and there are a vast number of period shots of US and other combat aircraft; all very good stuff in high-res, and a lot of COLOR!

Was it LIFE, or LOOK, or the Saturday Evening Post that had a big photospread view from the air of the dumped aircraft at Biak in or around 1946? I think National Geographic had such pics as well but the spread I recall ws in one of the big format magazines.

Here's the March '51 National Geographic photo and related text. I'd love to see the other larger format photos if anyone has them!
