65 Years ago, November 9, 1943, Surprise forays were made across the English Channel by RAF, British, Dutch, French, and Polish Formations of Mitchell Bombers with strong fighter escort, attacking targets in Northern France without sighting an enemy plane.
Mitchells based in India stuck rail yards at Paleik, South of Mandalay.
While Admiral Halsey’s air units continued pounding into uselessness the enemy airfields on invaded Bougainville, Mitchell Bombers meeting no enemy opposition, tore at gun positions-the only workable defenses at the airfields—and installations at the Kara Strip on the Southern Coast of Bougainville, dropping 72 tons of Bombs. And that's the way it was
65 years ago to today.

A week before this on 11/2 I flew from Tunis to Weiner Neustadt, 40 miles below Vienna, flight was 13 hours long. At that time W.N. was was the the hottest target until Ploesti. We had a running battle with many enemy fighters.
