I've had the opportunity to visit the NMUSAF a few times but never for more than a partial day. For 25 years or more, my Dad has been saying he'd like to make the trip to Dayton, particularly to see Bockscar, the B-36, and the XB-70. Well, he just turned 70 and I told him we weren't waiting any longer, so we spent two days there last week ... and still didn't see everything.

Unfortunately, we didn't have time for the Restoration Tour. As a current AF pilot, I drove my folks over to the hangar and politely asked if we could squeeze in for a :15 look at the Belle and Swoose but was told that was strictly against policy. I was disappointed but that's life. That just leaves something to see next time.

If you'd like to see our photos, here are two links:

Ken,

Don't fee to bad as a volunteer I cannot visit the restoration any time either. Have to sign up the same as a visitor although once a year they have a special evening for volunteers.

I was volunteering on the 24th at the Modern Flight (Korea/Vietnam) and if you were there in the morning, perhaps we met.

You can sign up in advance for the restoration either by phone or the web as it is the only tour you can do so.

"Thanks" for you service. I'll take a look at your pictures.

Glad that you made it out and enjoyed the museum. Maybe one day we can have a big WIX Gathering there.

We spent the day at the Museum last sunday (10/19.) It was my unofficials 30th anniversary visit..the first time I was there was in November of 1978. I was the one running around holding my camera over my head on a monopod. 8)

Afterwards, we always grab some KFC takeout, and go up to the Wright Brothers Memorial and have a picnic in the beautiful park overlooking Patterson Field.

I too was at the Museum yesterday. Easy for me since I live here and my wife works on the base. She had to run into the office for a bit so dropped me off. Spent the hour and a half in the bookstore and made it no further!

Also when visiting Dayton you should go down to Carillon Park which is sort of like Greenfield Village in Michigan. There is a Wright Cycle Shop there as well as an original Wright airplane circa 1909. Just 15 minutes to the north is the Waco Museum and Learning Center in Troy, Ohio. Lots of Waco memorabilia as well as aircraft. If any of you head this way send me a PM and I will take you down to show you our Wacos and maybe even go for a ride.
