Gary Austin at Reno...

WIX poster boy Gary Austin had an interesting Reno -- from a photographer's point of view anyway!

After setting what may be a new Reno Air Race record by spending several zillion hours preparing not just one but TWO Racers for the big show, Gary managed to arrive in the desert without anything to fly at all. Being constitutionally unable to hang around and B*llsh*t like the rest of us, he ended up getting involved...

and helping the IF1 ops people during qualifying periods. This is always a tense time with multiple small aircraft taking off, landing and flying the course at the same time. Every airplane must be watched all the time in case of any sort of emergency in this crowded airspace...

In the midst of all this the mechanic in Gary even found time to turn wrenches!

And when these shots were taken there had not even been any races yet -- this was all during tech and qualifying...

All photos by me or my wife Birgitta.

Gary, by now you should know that at WIX a half barrel will always make more friends than a six pack. :partyman:
