Warbird Information Exchange

I was doing some work on a customers plane last week at the Goodyear Airport, gooryear, Az. Which during and after WWII was Litchfield NAS. They did modifications to Privateers and Liberators there, as well as a Goodyear factory. After the war, it was the site if the Navy's version of Davis Monthan. It was where navy planes came to die. Today, Airliners come there to die.


These are the hangars from WWII, the East Hangar has had extensions added to it to allow airliners to fit inside.



Mosely Aviation's DC-7, was used by Ladybird Johnson.

P: Noise coming from under instrument panel. Sounds like a midget pounding on something with a hammer.

If you refer to Mel Shettle's book "U.S. Naval Air Stations of WWII Vol 2" page 128 there is an excellent aerial view of Litchfield Park dated March 1945. Over 200 PB4Y's can be seen on the ramp area...the vast majority being -2 Privateers with a token few -1 Liberators.

My uncle worked at the Goodyear facility during WWII where they did PB2Y Coronado subassembly work.
