My better half will be in Montreal for a large part of the upcoming weekend, so I am free to do what I want. Woo hoo! ;-)

I could sit around and sort through photos and video from the summer and play video games, drink beer, etc., but then I thought I would be kicking myself this winter when "getting out" is not an easy thing to do and I missed an opportunity to do so this weekend. So I am planning a one-day road trip with the end goal being to visit the Empire State Aerosciences Museum in Schenectady, NY. For those of you who don't know me I am live in Ottawa, Ontario. Here is a ROUGH draft of my planned trip...

As you can see I will only have about an hour at the museum before it closes as the plan currently stands. This is mainly due to the stops along the way to photograph some roadside warbirds. I thought what I should do is verify some of the questionable locations along the way first before trying to find them so I can free up some more time at the museum.

So what I am saying is... I need your help! So I have some questions...

#1: I know there is a UH-1 at an American Legion in Massena, but is there also an AH-1 at an AMVETS? If so where exactly is it? To help me out go to the map at...
http://www.aerialvisuals.ca/LocationDos ... 188#TheMap
...and right click on it to get coordinates.

#2: There may be a surplus dealer in Wampsville with some helos in the inventory. Can anyone confirm? If so where exactly is the dealer located? This map may help...

#3: Recently there was a post on WIX recently about the Stockbridge facility where the B-52 was being scrapped. I assume the B-52 is gone by now, however the question is are any of the other airframes in view from a public vantage point? Does the facility get nervous by people with cameras? Where is a good vantage point? Again, here is the map...
http://www.aerialvisuals.ca/LocationDos ... 208#TheMap

#4: There appears to be a C-130 prominently in public view at the New York ANG at the Schenectady Airport. Is the public free to photograph this one? Has anyone had any trouble with this before?

#5: Is the AH-1 in public view and photographable? I don't know who owns it. Is it an ANG display?

I hope to receive some tips and news from the WIX brain. As I do the trip will be refined, I will add waypoints to make navigation easier, etc. As a result you will see the route evolve.

Mike

Do you want to find locations of displayed, stored or active aircraft? Then start with the The Locator.
Do you want to find or contribute to the documented history of an aircraft? If so then start with the Airframes Database.

All I can speak for are #4 and #5.

#4 was viewable and I was able to take pictures of this aircraft. The fence is high but you can get some good shots (best to hit it before the sun gets to low and WATCH your speed that side of the airport the police will get you.

#5 I was dumb and asked to take some pictures of the Cobra. They said no. So, I was forced to do a drive by or two. Worked out well.

Hope it helps, wish I could meet up with you but I'm gassless in Nashville.

Tim

Thanks Tim. I was able to pin point the AH-1 in Massena.

#2 is at 43 04 37.50 N 75 40 59.50 W

There appear to be several UH-1 Huey fuselages (no rotors or tail booms). Some don't have doors.

The photo on Live Search is of unknown vintage.

I don't think I'd waste my time on these if you're short of time to visit a known museum.
