Solent Walrus W2718 Question / Update ?

Anyone know the status of the restoration ?

There was a small article in Aeroplane Montly a good while back on a fund appeal to continue restoration to airworthy status.

An appeal for £1 million has been launched by Solent Sky (formerly the Southampton Hall of Aviation) to complete the restoration of Supermarine Walrus W2718/G-RNLI to flying condition. See September's Aeroplane magazine for the full story and pictures.

JDK made a Walrus fan out of me...

I'd love to here an update on this one too. :)

Glad to hear it. We'll need a few. ;)

The website is at: http://www.projectwalrus.com/

I've not heard anything recently, but I have sent a query to my contact at the project.

My last information was that they had an agreement in principle with a well known and respected UK restorer, capable of doing the job. This will require significantly more funding than a (say) volunteer driven project which is also a lot less certain of being able to work to the required standard (as the UK CAA demand). High road, low road choice.

Thus the basic status is it is in fund-raising mode at the moment. After discussion, a PayPal button has been added so you can donate if you so wish.

When I know more, I'll pass it on. In the meantime, let's hope to see this one day:

NB: The wing isn't 'wobbly', it's a bent print in an album.

Although this is unlikely:

That is a sweet plane. Glad to see one under restoration.
