Got this from the Swiss Fly-In thread.

Definitively gives it a different looks.

The photobucket album is just superb...... 8)

Hi Michel,

The Swiss Stearman is converted to take a P&W R-985 engine (450 hp x 9 cylinders) and constant speed prop; larger and heavier installation than the original W-670 Continental (220 hp x 7 cylinders). This is a common conversion for dusters, air show work etc.

This engine installation requires shorter mounts, oil cooler etc and changes the front end of the Stearman somewhat.

I'm sure performance would be "lackluster" at 5600' field elevation with the 220 Continental, especially in mountainous terrain. I wonder if they do much winter flying? Brrrrr.....

I have seen a few instalation with the PW R985 before.

But I had never seen such a custom cowl job before.

Gives it a very different style.
