Ezell Warbird Restoration Pictures

I have a small group of pictures I took at Ezell Warbird Restoration in Breckenridge, Texas.

This has photos of the P-38 that will be leaving for Europe next week after a 3 year re-build. The Photographs do not show the immaculate detail and work efforts put in by the entire Ezell crew, but up close she is absolutely beautiful......

Wow. Great shots! Thanks for sharing. That -38 is simply stunning, inside and out. You could eat off of any surface in the cockpit. I even like the opposing bull emblem on the yoke, even though the purists will call me crazy.

over the years with Gardner flying circus. I remember the first time i put my wife in the cockpit.....it was the first time she really 'got' the warbird thing. she never grown to love it but she understands my passion better!

p-38 = model
-5 = 5th production change
LO= Lockheed

For tham plane it should be like P-38L-5-LO

Great pix of some real beauties! Lefty's old P-38 is just unbelievable!!! I think my jaw drops everytime I see it!
I do have a question I've been wanting to ask.... Why are the radiators painted silver? In all the threads I've never seen that addressed unless I just missed it. They look like metal in the radiator pix on Nelson's site except #7 where they kinda look like fiberglass??? They made the oil cooler scoops from scratch, I just wondered if the radiator housings were too complex to polish?
Don't get me wrong, I love the hard work and beautiful job they did.... and you are right about the yoke cover....way cool!!!

Great to see the lightning back in the air. I have to agree..the Red Bull markings are reasonably tasteful (although I would love it if they'd also add some "star and meatball" insignias.)

Hi n5151ts......Ladd Gardner was there as well, and he was flying the T6, I had a chance to meet him, and get a great deal of history about the P-38, and the other planes that were a part of his fathers flying day's.

I know that it was a whirlwind tour, but it was a great pleasure meeting you, and all of the fine folks there at Mr. Ezell's facilities. It was a great time, lots of pictures left for me to process, and I wanted to post up the one's of the Bearcat with you working on it. I also wanted to thank you for the "tour". I got to see some planes there that I would not likely have gotten to see in any other way.

It is nice to still walk into a place of business and see a lot of folks who are doing exactly what they like to do, and have a lot of fun doing it. That place is like a great big candy store for folks like me.

Give my very best to everyone there, and thank them for the courtesy and kindness they extended to me.

Hi Lynn....I still have over 965 pictures yet to review and get loaded up on the site......so keep your eye's open over on Flickr, .....(I shot over 1600 pictures and on initial review 1500 may be good enough to eventually post up, if Flickr will let me post that many !!!)

I was more interested in the jet, i hat eto see that P-38 with red bull stickers on it, it really takes away from a very rare and unique airplane. At first i thought that jet was a banshee, then i got a better look at it and it looks like a iskra.
