Road Trip Home From Thunder, Planning the Route

I am planning my road trip home from Thunder Over Michigan so that I make the best use of my travel time to take as many pictures of road-side warbirds along the way.

I am looking at the A-7, F-84 and F-100 at the ANG at the Toledo Express Airport near Swanton as one possiblity...

Has anyone visited here before? The aircraft are just inside the gate. Is photography of the airframes allowed even from a distance? What I am getting at is the question... Is it worth my time and effort to go out of my way to stop there. Normally for I would consider those three types more than worthwhile, but if I am not allowed to take pictures...

Looking for advice from anyone who has been there before.

In case anyone is curious the answer is no, you can't take pictures. Weird. In full public view, no sign or building in sight (due to a large thick tree line) or any other infrastructure for that matter. Photography not allowed. Funny how common sense is not so common anymore.

Mike,

I spent three months in Toledo, OH.

I tried two ways to get photos of the airplanes at the OH-ANG in Toledo: once, I approached the security guards, and was denied permission to take photos.

Then, I tried to contact the Ohio ANG through e-mail, asking for permission, and I am still waiting for an answer . . . .

Depending on the way you are returning home, you may want to get in touch with Tom Friedman, and he might be able to show you a little of what is available in Northern Ohio......

Already home, but thanks anyway Tulio.

I suspect the enhanced security after 911 put "public" displays like this at odds with the new rules. It is not so simple to move the displays to public vantage points, or at least properly prepared locations the public can easily view. It will likely be many years before we seen any of these airframes come into the public light if ever.
