"Lamborghini sent 10,460km for oil check. From correspondents in London | August 01, 2008
A HIGH-powered Lamborghini - the same model as Batman's - was sent on a 10,460km round-trip from Qatar to Britain simply to have a service, sparking fury from environmentalists.

The £190,000 ($400,484) black and gold car was put on a regular Qatar Airways flight to Heathrow airport, then flown back after having its oil checked, the The Sun newspaper said.

Servicing at an approved dealer costs £3552. The cost of sending it by air freight was £20,000, the daily said, citing the airline which confirmed it carried the Murcielago LP640 model last Friday and Monday.

Friends of the Earth's transport campaigner Tony Bosworth said: "The pollution from driving a Lamborghini is bad enough, but flying one thousands of miles for a service is taking climate-wrecking behaviour to new heights.

"With rising fuel costs and mounting concern about climate change most people are trying to save energy. They are likely to find this type of wasteful and damaging activity outrageous.''

But David Price of the Lamborghini Club UK, told The Sun: "If an owner wants to service his car in that way it is his choice. I'm not surprised. Thankfully, the age of excess in some areas continues.''

Lamborghini UK spokeswoman Juliet Jarvis said the supercar was not inspected at any of its service areas but told the tabloid: "This sort of thing is not unheard of.''

Speed costs money. How fast do you want to go?

I agree, it's assanine. He couldn't fly a tech out to service the car? Wouldn't that be better than risking damage to it?

However...

You know it is really sad. I once worked for a family that was probably in the top 25 richest in the world, to the point that money had no meaning.

They could buy anything they wanted any time they wanted without exception! Yet, in the end, just pissed away millions precisely because it had no meaning. In the "Master Plan", not sure I'd opt for that.

That Dude should have changed his own oil....naw, nevermind.

He was worried about rock chips in the paint

This is interesting. I thought I knew about all of Eric Downing's toys. I did not know he owned a Lamborghini Murcielago and I'm quite surprised that he has a home in Qatar.

The sooner we use up all the oil on the planet, the sooner somebody will invent a compact fusion power plant that we can drop into our SUVs!

How much matter was turned into energy in the first nuclear bomb? Something like 6/10 of an Ounce? Ok, that was fision and the exhaust was a bit destructive. My point is, we will never spend the time and money needed to make fusion work until we run out of oil.

Seen on a Hummer H-2 at Creve Coeur. It's owned by a warbird owner and it was parked in front of his warbird. Ok, it's a stretch but this post is still "on topic" right?

Remember one thing, WE bought the gas that put the money in this clown's pocket so he'd have enough to do this totally asinine thing.

Mudge the gaseous

(That don't sound right... :? )

Speaking of wasteful. . .

Sir Paul McCartney, like many celebs these days, is really into saving the planet and all that trendy "green" stuff. To prove it, he bought himself a hybrid car on a visit to the USA, and had it shipped to England so he could "drive responsibly" there. Did he have them put it on a UK-bound ship, where its transport would have negligible effect on Mother Earth? Oh, he!! no! He had it flown to London on a privately-chartered cargo plane, with no other cargo on board! The fuel burned and the pollution generated by that chartered jet were a bazillion times greater than the amount he'll ever save by driving that hybrid car!

I really can't believe that the liberal media even published the story.

:x

I was visiting a friend at LAX one day as the cargo 747 he was flying was being fueled and loaded. When they finished fueling he asked what mileage my Ford Ranger got. I told him 20mpg and he replied they had enough fuel onboard to drive my Ranger 900,000 miles.

I do wonder how much fuel/oil is burned every single day on this planet?

i believe the 747 holds about 379K lbs of fuel,m does anyone have a more acurate number for me. Pretty sure its in the ballpark though.

very impressive!
