That machine is gorgeous! I would love to get one of those rare birds.

Imagine the attention it would get in North America. I'd love to bring one over here to do the airshow rounds with and educate people of the Australian efforts during WWII.

Then again, it doesn't feel right to steal a rare Australian bird away from its home turf.

Thanks for posting!

Cheers,

David

It is in North America, that is the Sanders Boomerang, it is a little Boomerang, and a little T-6. Sanders completed it in 96-97

So that's the one they started with a T6 scenter section then ?

How original is the exhaust pipe configuration.

The Zuccoli bird has one you more often see in WW2 Boomerang pics.....and boy I have to admit it is one nice looking pipe

the pipe appears to be off a Harvard. None of the other Boomerangs flying are 2 seaters. It has some Boomer, but alot of T-6. The hedgehog pipe was to eliminate the exhaust flames, the stack on the sanders Boomer will not do that, just moves it aft.

I think that it is mostly T-6/Harvard with the exception of the canopy and perhaps some firewall & forward bits. It has some fiberglass parts as well. Nothing but the best in quality from Sanders, but really a replica.

Interesting.

It's a looky-like Boomerang, but a lot more 'like' than the 'Wirraway' T-6 in the US. It was, IIRC the first Boomer back in the air, the Zuccoli machine being done by the Sanders soon after.

The Zuccoli machine (also suffering from the Imron interior rash) is now grounded having been donated to the Museum of Army Flying at Oakey, Queensland - a waste, as it's not so original as to make that worth static preservation.

The only currently flying Boomerang is the Matt Denning restored example, now owned by the Temora Aviation Museum. This is a very, very accurate restoration.

What the cockpit should look like.

I believe the Sanders machine has been on the market for some time. I dunno what a T-6 is 'worth' but it's all the fun of a T-6 and a lot more, I'm told.

Could be a fun buy.

Regards,

PS Thanks bdk. ;)

Zuccoli's was first....Sanders was second...both built and flew 91-93 time frame...not later mid 90s. I was there. One day both were parked in front of the hangar..that was cool.

I'm a big fan of the Boomerang. And after seeing the different examples I can now see the sight differences between them.

James, thanks for posting those pictures. I would love to go see that Boomerang, but I don't know how well Temora would fit into our trip.

Cheers,

David

Jeff Thomas has been advertising this one for quite a while at quite a bit more $$$. He also has the P-51 hulk from Tillamook to rebuild with hopes of trading to MOF for their loaned out Spitfire.

If it's anything like the the NA-50 replica I saw recently, it may not be fast, but will climb like a bat. It was pretty impressive, I bet a really fun aeroplane.
