OK maybe it's been disscussed already, BUT. What happened to The History Channel's "Dogfights"? Man I planned my life around those shows. Are they coming back or what? :?:

Yeah, the History Channel has totally given up on actual history type stuff and jumped on the reality wagon with stupid shows about lumberjacks and truck drivers, which I think are the same thing in some states, and left out the actual history buffs in the crowd.

We used to call it the Hitler channel due to all the WWII coverage, now it is just plain dumb!

Thank God I have the Military Channel!

They just started showing here in the UK.

Interesting. A little cheese-ball when it comes to how the airplanes maneuver. I wonder if the people they interviewed and were actually involved in the dogfights depicted got to see the animation before the broadcast.

Other than that, a really neat show. My wife said to me recently while I was watching one episode that the depictions of the maneuvers with the colored flightpath ribbons against the black and green grid pattern made her actually understand what was happening...this after she has had to listen to years and years of me describing what it's like, and it never made sense to her.

So, kudos on the show for doing that.

As a die-hard "Dogfights" fan myself, I was truely pissd to find out they cancelled the show. It was cancelled when in the beginning of the second season they moved it to Thursdays, it dropped a few points in rating then they canned it. The new second in command at History Channel has also made a point to say, " History telling is out. Adventure seeking is in" henceforth all of the lamo shows like Monsterquest, Ice road truckers, Tougher in Alaska, and Ax men. She now has forsaken the"History" name and moved to lamo TV. My suggestion is to buy Dogfights season 1 and 2 and tell A&E, the parent company, history channel sucks now

Even though "Dogfights" is officially cancelled, you can still buy both seasons on DVD.

Order it from here:

Let's see; Ax men, I got it, some guys cutting down trees. Ice Roads, I got it, some guys driving on ice. Monster quest, I sit for about 10 mins on that one. DOGFIGHTS, I could never get it all, because there are enough GREAT stories about GREAT Americans that I could watch Dogfights until 2050 or my death [which ever came first]. One more...Battle 360 was also better than ANYTHING they have now. If H.S. dosen't get back to history and fast they will lose me real soon.

I have to agree. I hate to say it, but even a fairly detailed verbal or written description of aircraft combat manuvers really doesn't come through very clearly for me. A picture's worth 1000 words...

Also when I was younger(10-14) me and my dad would get up early mornings(5-6am) because they usually had a war movie or two showing on the history channel on the weekends. Where the hell did all that go too? :? Good times I had watching it with my dad and they are all gone! :x

I admit I really like "Modern Marvels" but I really wished they kept Dogfights. So many stories to be told and on both sides too. :!:

I dont get the Military channel. Still kinda burned about it. Wish it was kept as "Wings".

I personally liked the show ... a MAJOR plus to each installment were the pilots themselves talking about the event(s). Good on the producers for doing what they did in this MTV, attention-span of my 2 year-old entertainment environment. I'm sure they caught their share of flak from those who predicted NOBODY would like "that boring history crap" ... and on The History Chunnel, no less.

Please, somebody ... I was just surfing the channels when I ran across a commercial on The History Channel, for Ice Road Truckas.

Yeah! What I'm afta, Be-ahch! :supz:

What am I missing? Truckers driving on Ice. "The History Channel". Hmmmmm. The connection between the two, please ... somebody? Anybody?

Wade

I actually liked Axemen simply because it was filmed in NW Oregon near where we use to live and I enjoy the scenic views. I also had a cousin who was killed while logging so it gave me a basic understanding of the process. Now on with the next show Milkmen-Garbagemen-Postmen  :?
