I thought you might enjoy some pictures of some of Buffalo Airways' planes. I have more which I can add later if people are interested.

The first one is of C-46 C-GTXW.
The other ones are of C-FBAP, a C-54G, serial 36089.

Thanks for the photos! Sure is odd seeing an old Aero Union girl with a Canadain registration on it. Looks like the DC-4 is being well cared for.

It's a bit odd to see a mix of long exhaust and short exhaust stacks.. There was a Service Bulletin, I think, regarding this (I have to look it up) that mandated the long stacks so the exhaust, i.e. sparks, flame.. wouldnt go across the top of the fuel tanks...

Excellent, thank you! :D

I would love to see all you care to post on the '46. Especially any interior shots ... particularly the flight deck ... if possible?

When were these taken? I thought there were no more flying C-46s? Or was I just grossly misinformed?

There's two flying in Yellowknife, at least one in Manitoba, and a couple still in Alaska - plus the CAF has one or two. The sound of a C-46 taking-off in the winter at -40C is what you might call... distinctive! :D

A couple more from the winter here.

Doulgas C-54G registered C-FIQM, serial 36088.

Interesting, the Transport Canada website shows that C-FBAP (the previous pictures of the C-54) is serial 36089, built in 1945, and C-FIQM is serial 36088, but built in 1943. Can anyone confirm which information is right? Did these two C-54s actually come off the assembly line one right after the other, or is there a two year difference and possibly a problem with the data on the Transport Canada website?

Buffalo's second C-46, registered C-FAVO

When I visited the Canada Aviation Museum in Ottawa last summer, they said their Northstar was the only one still in existence (and it's decidedly non-airworthy.)

There was a derelict Northstar in South America somewhere, years ago.

There was one adjacent to the Mexico City airport that was used as a restaurant "El Baron Rojo" until the late 70s - it was either scrapped or burned up in a fire; I forget which - Tulio?
