Hello all,

I was reading another thread that discussed individuals currently working on importing jet warbirds to the U.S. Last I heard, there was an FAA-imposed moratorium on importing jet warbirds. Has that changed?

I believe the moratorium was on supersonic jets. Plenty of L39s have come into the country recently.

Your government in action (INACTION?) you can import a MiG 17 from Poland or PRC, but you are precluded from EXPORTING a Spitfire because it is classified as a "WEAPON OF WAR"
..did I miss the bus on how that works!!??!!

I was mearly stating exactly what this 'governments' policies are regfarding importation and exportation of aircraft, read Wolf Czalas book on building the Me 262 REPLICAS for some insight on what and who needed to be licked to get a REPLICA jet fighter exported to it's customer in Germany, this was well after it took congressional intervention to get the REPLICA aircraft its ATC because a 'political' appointee who was running the local FISDO was afraid that it would be used to ram into a building and she considered it a potential 'weapon of mass destruction' ....and a van full of fertilizer and diesel is OK?

Makes sense to me. So you can import a classic warplane easier than export one. There is a better chance of a warplane leaving the states going to a country that would use the thing as a frontline fighter. Maybe not to the extreme of a Spitfire, but a Mig? You bet.

That thread is very "thin" with information regarding a "flyable" MiG-19 coming to the U.S. I would LOVE to see a MiG-19 in flight. Along with the MiG-17, it has always been one of my favorite MiG aircraft and I think better looking than the MiG-21.

My dream would be to some day see multiple Vietnam Era/Cold War Era/Korean War Era "Heritage" flights: F-4/F-104/F-100/F-86 formation and MiG-21/MiG-19/MiG-17/MiG-15 formation.

I can DREAM, can't I?

Obviously it has changed as N104RN came into the country in 2007 (from Canada) and I believe it is both a jet and supersonic.

There is some distinction between Foreign designs and American designs.
When we imported Princess Elizabeth there were some issues but because it is returning to it's country of origin the process was not to bad.
There are many more issues to deal with when it isn't returning to the country of origin and it is foreign built.
All of these are designed as weapons of war and even though mostly civilized currently the governments of the world do no have a category for "former military aircraft now non-lethal and only flown on weekends at airshows by middle aged pilots who drink beer after hours".

A former colleague was maintaining an Allison 580 operated by a local very large University (located very near the Montlake neighborhood) in Seattle's weather research college. The aircraft was an ex-USAF C-131 that went from the USAF to Allison then to the University and was maintained under the USAF maintenance program established for that aircraft. The local FISDO decided that wasn't good enough and made everyone jump through their collective a$$es and establish an 'airline type program' even though this airframe had never been commercial and was operated by a recognized University doing atmospheric research-
Again, I submit that some individuals do need a special flag to denote their position, but I continue to be stumped trying to figure out how to accurately depict Ignorance Rampant on a Field of Stupidity :?

That's only because we the people have allowed our elected officials to forget who THEY WORK FOR!! We must constantly be a part of the process for it to work. If not, the squeaky wheel will get all the grease and it may not be our wheel! So, after spinning our thoughts here, it would be a good time to forward them to the elected officials who work for us!
