It's the biggest warbird event in the European airshow calandar .....

It attracts some of the world's best warbrid display pilots ( such as Steve Hinton, Ed Shipley, Howard Pardue to name just three )

It costs 12 dollars a gallon for fuel to drive there each day

The around 50 bucks to get in and a few more to go out to do the flightline walk

I love every minute of it !

Let me share with you a few highlights .....

Stephen Grey's P-39

Hurricanes in line astern

Mustangs over the rainbow .....

A P-40 without a "sharkmouth"

Scandinavian Historic Flight's P-51D, painted as Old Crow

French Spitfire with contra prop ~ as restored by the Fighter Rebuilders at Chino.

Mustangs doing their thing .....

And finally ..... The Balbo that concludes the show each day. No prizes for guessing what they are !

Ed Shipley leading in P-51D ~ Miss Velma, flanked by the Fighter Collections Hellcat and Wildcat, then their Corsair.

4 P-51 Mustangs

Buchon, Curtiss Hawk, Yak 3, P-39

4 Spitfires

4 More Spitfires

2 P-40's with a Spitfire and Hurricane

B-25 Mitchell and A-26 Invader

And that's it for today

PK, actually!

Nice shots from a great event. Must be why I make the 5,500-mile trip each July to attend. :D

Great pics, just curious... what is the origin of the name "Balbo"?

According to the announcer at Duxford, it's the name of an Italian Flag Officer who believed in massed formations of airpower.

It's not in common use in modern times but is particularly apt for Duxford.
