Boy...did I miss this one some how.....It has been moved to VFM and we have tested oil and run it up. I am on my way up there again this afternoon and will have more news during the weekend. Not out of the woods yet.....thanks for thinking of me.

Not quite yet, Wayne...LOL

Zane....the baby bird is nesting comfortably inside VFM hangar being a temporary Night Bird display for the FAC Museum.

Did fly late Sat evening for about an hour. Flying about 10 hours locally before attempting trip home and several oil changes with visual checks for metal or anything untoward as well as sending oil off for analysis. So far the oil looks fine. Airplane is flying OK,,,,,,,part of the problem is psychologically induced "panic" :lol:

with attention to little sounds, rattling, vibrations which are probably normal but I'm a bit jumpy about. Can't say the plane has ever been a very smooth flying aerochine...especially in hot bumpy Texas air.

Back to the original prop damage.......unbelievably Byam was able to save the blade.....straighten it to the normal twisting and cut a bit off the tips and it remains within tolerances. About 3/4 inch was taken off each tip. The flange runout check was normal. If all the flight testing goes well, I'll take it home and work on changing the engine in the off season as I was considering anyway. All of this is taken moment by moment hour by hour of flying. Haven't ventured too far away from FTW and my routes aways include a pattern to remain close to all the little fields in area. Am becoming quite familiar with Lake Worth and Copeland.

Home Again at last

I have been kinda quiet about the repairs to the prop and airplane, not knowing if all the testing would be favorable. But I can now say that the bird is home in its nest and is flying quite well.

Although it was a pain time wise and pocketbook wise to have the damage be found away from home, I have to be very thankful that it did occur where Byam Prop Shop is. They did a wonderful job saving the blade. I have to thank the people at Vintage Flying Museum for allowing me to keep the plane there for 3 months while we worked on it and test flew it. I guess I should also be happy that I have someone special there so I didn’t have to pay for motel rooms on top of everything else…LOL.

I still will have to replace the engine but on my time as I was planning prior to this damage and when I can get the cash together. The plane seems to being doing as well as it was prior to this oooopppppsssss.

I look forward to trying out something other than straight and level this coming weekend at the Vietnam Fly-In at LBJ Ranch. Should be very nice if all the planes and possibly one Huey show up.

Then on to AIRSHO. Really happy I will not miss that. I have not missed one in 17 years and I am so happy that I will be able to go and to have been invited. But no, Mr. Brown, I will not put your wings decal on my baby……..(oh oh now I guess I’ll start that flame war again).

Look forward to seeing everybody again for the fall shows.
