P-51 and P-40 Owners in Los Angeles for Documentary

Thu Jul 10, 2008 5:00 pm

I am producing a project about warbirds and the people who own them.

I am planning to feature the P-51D and the P-40.

Does anyone know people in the Southern California area who may be interested in being interviewed for my documentary and speaking about their plane?

Unlike the other DVDs and TV shows out there, I have no interest in making a film that creates fake drama and uses the same 12 shots over and over and over...

The central theme of this film will be the beauty of the planes, artfully shot, lots of detailed closeups, etc.

Any help would be appreciated.

I also have a bunch of pictures I've taken recently for my research and I will be postin glinks to them in about a week.

You might talk to Jeff Harris of Allied Fighters. He's got a fancy
360' digital camera system on their P-51D and was talking about
putting one on the P-38L 8)

Also, talk to Steve Hinton at Planes of Fame, Chino, California. He knows virtually all of the owners in California with these planes. When Hollywood needs anything warbird related, he is the "go-to-guy". You can get a hold of Steve through the POF website:

You should talk also with Simon at Provenance fighters...he's supervised rebuild projects on both airplanes and buys and sells them.

Wow!

Thanks for all of the information.

I've contacted Steve Hinton, Chuck Hall, and Provenance Fighter Sales. Awaiting replies...

Anyone have any information about the P-51 owners at Van Nuys? I've heard Tom Cruise has one, but I think I need to pursue someone a bit more likely to appear in a little film... :-)

Yes, Tom does have a P-51 at Van Nuys. Matt Jackson was Tom's P-51 check out pilot and probably knows all of the owners at Van Nuys. I don't have contact information for him, but I'm sure someone on this forum could probably PM you that info. Matt is an annual Reno Air Race pilot as well as one of the top Mustang pilots around.

Tom's P51 is at Santa Monica, Matt is based out of Whiteman these days.
