Wheel ID needed

Fri Jul 04, 2008 3:55 am

Gday all, i've found a set of these wheels and ID'ing them has me stumped....so I turn to you the brain bank :D

All I can tell you is WW2 aircraft...the hub is made by Goodyear G Britain and its a 24.7 hub or for a 24.7 tyre? I am going to try and clean up the hub a bit over the weekend to clear up the paint and get more information.

The hub center cap has a serial of E 17783 D the 8 could be a 5 or 6 as well...not very clear.
I know E part numbers were used on Aussie built Beauforts but this is too small for that....any ideas.

The smallest aircraft main tyres I know are 27's used on Mustang, Kittys and Boomers.....unless of course its a nose wheel or pretty big tailwheel?

A reduced photo is below. I can send a 1.8MB photo that is a lot better in clarity (5MP res)... for those who want to see it better

Wheel ID

Very odd size indeed. When I first saw your picture I thought it almost a dead-ring for the Sikorsky helo wheels on the H-19 or H-34. Same type of finned construction, bolted bi-halve, dust cover, etc.

The sizes you provided have me stumped, however. I'll have a look at some of the Sikorsky wheels in hangar today and will see if the number series is even close.

Good luck in your search for answers!

With the spelling of "Tyre" cast in the wheel, I'd hesitate to guess they were probably made in England.

Sorry Guys, might have mislead you somewhat!!! It appears the wheel hubs may have been from a PC-6 Pilatus Porter!! They were operated out of Oakey Airfield which is where I acquired them. I ASSumed they were ww2 due to the other junk that was nearby
