I've got to make my way down there. I'm really liking the fact that my girlfriend's Dad lives only about a 20 minute drive from the airport.

On my next trip down I'm definitely checking it out!

From a photographer's point of view, I'm not too crazy about those barriers, but overall I rather like their new nest as compared to the old one. It seems to have a more appealing atmosphere.

AMEN, especially since it's named after my hometown. I haven't been up to Seattle in almost a year, but Everett isn't that far away, I should get up there soon to see this.

Anyone got an idea when that B-17 will join the collection?

I've seen too many airplanes destroyed by the term "Static Restoration."

I'm the fat guy in the leather coat @ the left wing tip of the I-16.
I've got lots of photos but Photosuckit is acting up so I'll try later.

Hint for those planning on pictures, I had to put on my heavy boots to step on the pictures I took to adjust for some really awful lighting/strong backlighting/difficult shadows and today was a cloudy day so I imagine it'll go bonkers in strong sunlight coming thru the skylights.

The Me-163 is just about impossible to photgraph as it's crammed into a corner that has floor to ceiling windows on the right side less than three feet from the right wing tip, and a black hole on the left, it was more than my little PHD (push here dummy) digital could deal with. Same with the Reichenburg and V-1 across the alcove.

It really is a nice facility and a feather in the cap of Everett! I encourage everyone coming to the Northwest to make the trip to KPAE and visit, bibs should be made mandatory to keep the drool off the subjects being observed!!

The two place Zero has been here (in the Everett/Arlington area) for awhile, it's being wrenched on in plain sight of guests and will give a 'real airplane place' feel to the exhibits, every aircraft has a wheeled diaper pan under it as, except for the Hellcat and Dora, they are all fliers, the Dora because it's so rare and the F6F because its been a museum exhibit for a number of years and has given up parts for others.

Its a shame that the Hellcat no longer flies and its been robbed for parts, it flew across to the UK 10- 12 years ago.

Any word yet on the short nose 190 that FHC has? It should be getting close to completion. Do they plan on flying her, or will it be grounded just like her long-nosed brother?

Any sign or word of the B-17E?

I do hope that this remains a flying collection, and doesn't go the way of Kalamazoo, Champlin, Pond, War Eagles, Tillamook..............etc.

I always feel sad when I see sheds full of previously airworthy aeroplanes parked in neat rows.

I certainly hope so, and that is the stated goal of the museum. That was reaffirmed at the grand opening on the 6th of June. I think the limiting factor, though, will be pilot availability. Allen certainly will have ZERO problem with the money or resources, but there are only so many qualified pilots around to fly the planes. With their flight schedule of having a "flying day" every other week, that is quite ambitious to have somebody come out to fly the airplanes. I don't know of a whole lot of extremely qualified pilots up in the Seattle area that are up to Allen's qualifications and credentials to fly his planes. The only one that immediately comes to mind is Bud Granley. I know that he has flown at least one plane - the P-47. Others such as Steve Hinton fly his planes also, but I couldn't imagine Steve coming to Seattle every other weekend just to fly a plane for an hour or two. Steve has huge commitments at Chino with the POF and Fighter Rebuilders. It wouldn't surprise me if Allen actually puts pilots on his payroll to bring them out to fly his planes.
