Warbird Information Exchange

Since stock B-25B, C, & D aircraft are hard to come by, does anyone have any detailed interior photos, particularly of the tail stinger and rear turret area? How about a source for original North American or US Army photos from the 1940's?

I realize YW's waist windows are an authentic, yet odd, snapshot of the B-25 production sequence. That is interesting, as we tend to think of the D & G models with no waist windows and aft top turrets and the H and J models as the ones where the top turrets moved forward and the waist windows appeared. Very neat piece of history. Additional photos would be great.

I don't have any interior shot of the Hangar Warrior but I do have have some exterior. From what I've been told Yankee's B-25 had a tail gun position and it was removed. If get on a ladder and look down on the tail you can see how it was reskinned. Also having waist guns installed would keep the guys from having their sweet couch installed in the back for the those who buy flex-rides.

I doubt if Yankee Warrior ever had an actual tail gunner's station. Like many B-25C/Ds, she may have had the observer's blister removed and a single gun installed at some point, but I don't think the aft fuselage ever had any major structural mods. When the YAM first got her, the blister was missing, and the tail simply faired over with a flat peice of sheet metal. They made a new blister and installed it a few years ago.

Don't know if this will be of interest, but here's a snapshot of the upper turret of the NMUSAF B-25D (displayed as a Doolittle Raid B.) During a visit to the Museum a decade or so ago I noticed they had removed one of the fuselage windows, so I stuck my camera inside and took a shot (this was before digital, so I didn't know what I had until I got the film developed.)
