Hi,

Is there any way to get some info. on PBM Mariners that were lost or sunk in the Aleutians? Looking for Squadrons, BuNo #'s, dates, etc..

Thats all I have to work with, a partial story about a PBM that sank in the Aleutians.

Regards,
Mike

Thanks Bob. I did have a look there, could only find overseas wrecks. Guessing the Aleutians is lumped in as U.S. Territory. Oddly Hawaii isn't, as I did find wrecks listed there.

Regards,
Mike

Both VP-42 and VP-43 used the PBM operationally in the Aleutians (including postwar). I have no idea how useful this will be, but here's a couple of Aleutian PBM mishaps to get you started:

Note the incident of July 2, 1953 at the following link:

http://www.vpnavy.org/vp42_mishap_1950.html

And scroll all the way down to the entry for August 26, 1944 at this link:

http://www.vpnavy.org/vp43_mishap_1940.html

Happy hunting.
