H-34/S-58 on eBay

Sun May 25, 2008 4:54 pm

It sure would be great to see this one to returned to her military colors.
I'm guessing registering it in the Standard Catagory would make a ride program easier/less costly and time consuming.
Any idea what it would cost roughly to operate one per hour?

Interesting history on this one; here it is when it was a Winnebago (Itasca) Heli-Home:

I wish there were some interior photos - I'm thinking orange shag carpeting, an Amana Radarange, and a quadrophonic 8-track system! According to this article in Time,

http://www.time.com/time/magazine/artic ... 29,00.html

the designer had bought 56 of these helicopters to make Heli-Home conversions; I wonder how many were actually built?

Well, that's an H-19/S-55 rather than an H-34/S-58. But they are both GREAT looking helicopters. The H-19, H-21, H-34, H-37 medium to heavy piston engined helicopters from the 1950s/60s era are my FAVORITE vintage helicopters.

I loved seeing the UH-34D from Long Island at Cherry Point and at Thunder over Michigan last year.

I'll second that, Nathan! I remember seeing an all orange Navy H-34 at Pax River, Maryland back in 1966/67.

Wasn't there an H-34 on Mythbusters once?

In the ebay pics, there are some photos of it when it was at my home airport near Pittsburgh.

Someday I'd like to ride in that H-34!
My cousin Tom flew 200+ H-34s in HMM-362 "Ugly Angels" on his 1st tour in VN 1966-67.
He was shot down 4 times!!
They flew a lot off missions off the USS Iwo Jima.
