If you're looking for a great movie over the weekend, Robert Downey Jr. is fantastic in 'Iron Man', lots of great effects and humor....Downey plays an arms manufacturer, so it is only logical that in his offices there are photos here and there of planes and other instruments of war being built....one photo on a wall is of a B-24 production line....another that I was less sure about towards the end of the movie LOOKS like a Boeing B-15 (or whatever the forerunner to the B-17 was) overflying a crowd of people at a bond rally or something....

Oh...and then there are the scenes of Iron Man being chased by 2 Lockheed F-22's....good stuff....

I have a booklet from Dept. of the Navy which discusses the mock-up prossesses as used by the wartime aircraft industry. The very first photo shows early B-24 mock up, looking more futuristic 30's Bill Barnes comic book influenced than ungainly angular affair we've all come to know. Interesting to note first cock-pit envisioned was long low glazed over the top affair that flowed from nose to wing.

Thanks for the review Mark. I was just thinking of taking my 9 year old to see "Iron Man" after the Temple air show today...

I don't think you'll be dissappointed....lots of folks exiting the theatre were commenting on how good the movie was, and being a Robert Downey Jr fan from his 'Air America' days, it was good to see him back in a major movie like this one....his quick wit, even if it is scripted, is great....watch for the scene where he's testing his rocket boots, had the whole theatre rolling...a fun movie, and they're already talking sequel....

I saw it last night and loved it as well. It was pretty cool how he had all those pictures of warbirds around his office and garage. I can't remember where, but I think it was in his garage that he had a model of an XB-70. Good stuff.

Is "Ironman" a Spielberg movie??? I haven't heard about it until this posting....His movies seemed to always have a B-17 in it , wheather it be a model or a picture on a wall...........

As with most of the Marvel Movies, Ironman will be a Trilogy. Most of the actors have spoken of having signed a 3-movie contract when they signed on for the project. Those that haven't may or may not be in future movies for various reasons.

I also hear there's a prologue for a new Marvel movie after the credits finish.

As for director, Ironman was directed by Actor/Director John Favreau.

Just got back from seeing Iron Man, thought it was a great, if typical, superhero movie. I am looking forward to the next one.

No, not a Spielberg movie (but the effects were done by George Lucas' company if I recall....pretty close...) It was directed by a guy named Jon Favreau...and very competently, if you ask me...

John Favreau is best known for the movie "Swingers" starring himself and Vince Vaughn.

Apparently he had to fight the studio to get Downey the part after they wanted someone ten years younger and with a better reputation, but I think he did great in this part.

The B-17 head on shot over a bond rally is really cool, does anyone have that shot?

Actually I read in Time magazine that the studio wanted a younger unknown... so the role didn't have a character with an established typecast. Think Toby McGuire in Spiderman.

I think R.D. Jr. did a fantastic job and was perfect for the role... considering his own history and recovery and how Tony Stark was much like him in his "real life", he added a lot of street cred to the role.

I just wish my wife could find our copy of Iron Man #1...
