P-38 Scatterbrain Kid II

Sun Oct 28, 2007 11:25 am

Anyone know if restoration is taking place on this P-38?

I dont think anything will happen to this airframe until the P-82 situation is resolved.

Are the remains still being held in San Marcos?

With all the flip flops on the P-82/P-38 trades and nontrades is the CAF still the owner of Scatterbrain Kid II?

Didn't it belong to a guy up in Minnesota?

I thought Frye was part of the original swap but since the P-82 was returned to the CAF maybe the P-38 was too, but I am not sure on this.

Is there enough left to restore. The story I had heard was that it was pretty badly twisted up and would essentiallly require completly replaceing 90% of the airframe to get her in the air again???

Anyone have any better info.

Is it just the camera angle or is this a 2 seater? That gondola looks quite large to me.

Would be awsome to see this one restored as a night fighter, complete with the radar pod under the nose! 8)

"P-38M cockpit mudge and that nasty survey nose."
Is that a "yes" or a "no" to my 2 seater question?

Mudge the dense

Mudge,

Yes, the "M" is a two-seater. The radar operator sat in that little space behind the pilot.
