Warbird Information Exchange

A couple of T-28s, a P-51 and a B-25 have shown up. Anyone know the ID of the P-51 and the B-25?

The P-51 is "Red Nose", I saw it and the Kate arrive this morning. The B-25 I am not sure about.

Not this weekend. I flew the plane into Charleston last Monday, but I didn't get the nod for the show this weekend. Hope it is a good and safe weekend for all.

Just got home from the show and man was traffic horrible, but that is another story. There were actually two P-51's on the field, "Rebel" and "Luscious Lisa". I also finally got to see the Trojan Horseman fly which I thought was really neat to watch. Berlin Airlift was there with the C-54 (which it is always great to see Tim and the bird). On the warbird side there was the 6 T-28's with the Horsemen, Kate, B-25, Navion, FW-149, Stearman, 2/3 scale P-51B, some private aircraft scattered about. Hopefully tonight I will get some pics posted.

pmahaffey.... Who flew 1042B to the Thunder in the Valley in COlumbus, GA back in March? I was gonna talk to the crew, but the previous year, the crew didn't seem to interested in talking to "visitors"..I was a little put off.

Hey Gary,

You should have stopped by. I was there this year along with three other crew members. We also had a group of WWII B-25 pilots with us. They had some great stories to tell, and got to fly with us Saturday Morning. I wasn't there the previous year so I'm not sure who was there. We are a pretty easy going bunch this year. I'll gladly chat with anyone, and that goes for the rest of the crew too. The only time I can think of where we might be a little short with people is if we have a mechanincal issue to attend to, or we are getting ready to launch. Hope to see you next year.

Well, I truly hope you guys will be back next year...given the current price of fuel....I heard on the radio that the oil company "makes" 29 cents a gallon, and the rest is taxes. Thanks for the invite, and I do hope to see you'se guys here again next year.

Here's a breakdown of the component costs involved in a gallon of automobile gas, for the state of California, on April 21, 2008. These costs are averages, and may vary from locality to locality based on the local tax structure.

Cost of Crude Oil . . . . . . . . . . $2.80
Distribution, marketing costs & profit . . . $0.11
Refinery costs and profit . . . . . . . $0.28
State Underground Storage fee . . . . . $0.01
State & local sales taxes . . . . . . . .$0.28
State excise Tax . . . . . . . . . . $0.18
Federal Excise tax . . . . . . . . . . $0.18

This gives you a retail price at the pump of $3.85 per gallon.
The refinery profit portion of the cost normally averages about 8.9%, so as you can see, the refiner's profits are down somewhat for April.

Again, these are averages for California, and will vary elsewhere in the country due to the local tax structure and possible variations in distribution costs.
