Russian copy of B-29

I was just watching a movie and it reminded that Russia copied the B-29, do any of their copy's still exist or any of the 29's they kept. While on this subject, did anyone ever convince china to let go of the P-61?

very nice, quite a collection, I saw the IL-12 bit no IL-14. The museum I belong to in CA. has a IL-14 we flew drom RENO. Itr is non-flying at this time but thewy hhope to get her in aor again.

Thanks, I have been with them for over 12 years now, and for last 4 years I still go down in AUG. for annual airshow so I can sit with "my" plane, I was the crew-chief of our F-86H, I spend weekend showing her to visitors and showing some displays I have made, 20MM cannon shells in a link, I also open up parts of the plane such as the dive brakes and the ammo compartments which I might add, still has all 4 ammo cans in them, and one has 5 QTs of military turbine oil in it. spares I guess? Part of my display is the maps I found in the map case, dated 1967.

I remember when those IL-14's came to Reno, you guys did get the nicer one of the two. the other IL-14 had the cargo/paratrooper interior in it. They sure were a neat airplane.

I remember one year right after we got it, for the sow, they taxied it over to ramp for the show. My son was about 13 then and they let him sit between them in cockpit. he loved it. Our president at the time, was the one who flew it from reno and he said it flew great, the only problem that they had was tower asked them how high they were and they had to convert meters so could tell them.

There's an excellent made-for-television documentary available about the "development" of the TU-4...NOVA perhaps? Anyway, if memory serves, the USSR had two or three interred B-29's that they reverse engineered. One funny part I recall was regarding Stalin's iron-fist requirement to make the copies exact. The primary B-29 being copied had a skin patch where combat damage had been repaired, so...the resulting TU-4 had the same patch!

I think it was three- two were left intact, one was completely dissected. Just to add insult to injury, one of the three was "The Hap Arnold Special", a B-29 named for the boss of the USAAF...

The main problem the Russians had was the thickness of the metal- their aluminum was produced in sheets made to a metric thickness, and the B-29 used the darn fine English or conventional inch system... (Guess Metric wasn't the right answer there, either...lol) So the Russian engineers finally came up with their own idea- they just used what was closest, and never told Stalin.

The story about the replicated battle damage are apparently true, as well...

History Channel shows that show occasionally- saw it on the old Aviation Channel, before they ruined it by changing the format... (Stupid Cable.)

I knew I saw a B-29skie somewhere but couldn't remember where it was other than in mother russia! getting old is----uh---um---er....i can't remember but its something bad....I think....
