Warbird Information Exchange

Guys: I'm going to be offline for an indeterminate time. The heavy storms running through the area has flooded us out. Between the golfball sized hail, 70+ mph winds and apparent structural damage to the house, I'm going to be busy for a little bit. Soon as I finish this, the computers are being shutdown since we have 6" of water thoughout most of the house. The only dry areas are the bathtub and about 30 square feet around my computer chair. Will pop back on with a brief status report when I can figure out how bad things are.

Well, we've surfaced sorta. We got deluged by something greater than 6" of rain in about 21 minuets. A neighbor has a gauge that holds 7" and it was running over long before the rain quit. We got rain and up to golfball sized hail for a total of about 40 minuets. We had up to 6" of water in the house in some of the rooms and all but about 50 sq. ft. had some standing water. Two hours after the storm, there was little standing water in the house or on our property.
We did get lucky in that the roof suffered only one cracked shingle, but I did find one broken truss and at least two broken rafters.
Our luck ran out on water damage though. Despite all that I could do, we ended up with about 5 sq. yards of carpet that I haven't been able to pull out yet. We've been running the washer and dryer almost non-stop trying to get all the cloth stuff we used to try and stem the incoming tide clean and ready for storage. Despite our efforts to try and get the house dried out as quick as possible, it looks like we now have a bumper crop of mold in the walls and in some furniture we couldn't move.

Tommorow's task is to finish pulling the carpet out of Mac's room and start boxing and moving books up there so we can get the water damaged bookcases out of the house and the carpet under them. I cna then tear out the temp walls that make up Kaelyn's nursery and get to all the waterlogged files in a closet in our bedroom.

We're about to have a meldown over dealing with the insurance company. Called them Thursday morning and were promised a callback from an adjuster within hours. As of yet, we haven't heard boo out of them. Going to sic Val on them Monday and let her go Chicago on them. Serves them right for not even taking the time to simply call and let us know that they couldn't get with us for a day or so and answer some questions from me about what I could do to mitigate further damage.

I kinda think someone is trying to send us a message about living here... So far over the last year, we've had two minor fires, plague ( distemper running though some of our cats ) pestulance ( major flea infestations and ant invasions ), a minor famine since the stove immolated itself three weeks ago and now a flood.

We do feel blessed though, in that even with all the stuff that has happened so far, we are not having to pick up the splinters of our home and possesions like some of the Ezell crew, and our hearts and thoughts go out to them in their time of need.
