I was just at sac today to help work on the b-29 elevator, and whatever else and had a chance to take some pics, the first time since ive volunteered there. The b-36 main cockpit has been restored and now their working on the crew area, the b-29 is getting restored inside and out, the b-17 is basically done but now comes the details, any questions I'd be happy to answer if I can. heres the photobucket link to my pics

Awesome pictures. The interior restorations look great! Obviously lots of hard work going on there. I keep hoping they won't paint (yikes) the exterior of the B-29. Just hold off until the day comes that they can afford to shine it up like the PIMA, NASM, NMUSAF and NEAM B-29's...

If one is to go there are the bombers open for walk through's? Did you get any shots of the Hustler cockpit that you haven't put up yet? Thanks for sharing.
Also I didn't know they put gunsight's on the waist guns on 17's! Interesting. :o

no the bombers are not open inside to the public, I will try to get shots of the b-58 interior as i have time, very cramped inside the b-58, I 'm very privelaged to be able to roam through these aircraft as time permits. so I'll try to share the wealth as I can

Man that would be great to see the cockpits of that B-58, I haven't seen to many shots of those before.
Thanks.

Thanks a lot for the B-36 interiors!!! and see! They ain't all 'interior green' inside are they?

bryang,

Thanks for the interior shots. The last time I saw the inside of the B-36 was thirty years ago, but the bombardier station doesn't look all that much different than 1977. An interesting detail is the blocked off bombsight window that is typical of the later pure-bomber B-36s. Only the RB-36s retained the glass in that position.

I have always wanted to ask, what ever became of the deskinned B-25 fuselage that used to be on display in the main hall at the old SAC Museum site?

the deskinned b-25 is right behind the b-36, I dont know if it can be seen in my posted pictures---that particular airframe is one of three that came from the old south omaha airfield and one of the others that came from that field is how aerotrader got started---The museum has 2 b-25s

Thank you bryang!!! Man...one would be hard-pressed to get any work done with all of those lovely ladies sitting around to be looked at and even better, crawled around in! You are certainly a lucky fella...thank you for all the pix!

Now, I would love to come to "work" there. I promise to keep a drool bucket close at hand to keep my droolings off the planes

Awesome pix!!!

I have some pictures of one of the B-25Js at South Omaha N3442G. That was the one that my father purchased. Soon after he ran into Carl Scholl who had also just recently purchased a B-25 and was looking for parts. They decided to join forces and purchase as much B-25 parts and airframes as they could. They also met Tony Ritzman who had some experience working on B-25s and soon he joined in as well and that is basically how it all got started. My father was mostly a silent partner for the first 10 years or so but eventually moved on to work on restoring an old WWII air base, Eagle Field.

N3442G getting pulled fro mthe muddy field it sat in for 30 years.

Bascially the entire aircraft was gutted

Carl, Tony and my father spent 3 cold months of winter replacing the engines, patching things up, installing some minimal gauges and making the aircraft fairyable. Bill Muszala flew it out of the short grass strip 3 months later.

thank you for that great info, its neat to see even out in omaha theres a link to the important warbird community. I was reading an article in the new warbird digest about the auction in the 60's of tallmatz aviation and how the rosen novak car dealer in omaha bought that collection, and what happen
with it. Very interesting. of course the coolest thing is that enola gay and boxcar were built at offutt(martin bomber plant), as well as b-26's.

Bryang,

I was there Friday for a Scout sleep over. Ships passing in the night as it were!

While the scouts were launching paper air rockets I snapped a few of the B 29.

Peter, Vulcan pics included from my past trips as well. I think you asked if the Olympus engines are installed in an old post of mine. Not sure it the other three are but one is in a cradle behind the AC. Pics to come.

There are also a few of the stripped B 25
