NE Air Museum Report with Photos

Sat Apr 19, 2008 11:00 pm

I visited this museum in October during one of their open cockpit days. I had high hopes given the vast collection and had expected to spend several hours in the musuem however due to the state of the exhibits and lack of the restoration shop being open I found the facility somewhat disappointing and left after about an hour. While some of the displays are very well done, there is just too much clutter around the planes to allow good photographs. The outside displays need attention, and if the restoration shop was not going to be open, that should be noted on the website. I emailed the museum to provide feedback but never received a reply. I obviously did not include every plane in this post, only the ones I felt I could get decent shots of.

Suggestions for the museum:
-Open the balcony area in the B29 hangar to allow a higher view of the plane.
-Reduce the clutter around the planes.
-Provide notice with either a sign or notice on the website when the restoration hanger will not be viewable.
-Why do the planes outside have to backed up so close to the trees, pull them forward to allow a better rear/side view, and lose the ropes, with the current condition of the outside planes, is the roping really that important.
-Walk around the muesum and take photos, it will give a better idea of how busy the foreground and background are for photos.
-Nice search function for your collection on the website but add the serial numbers of the planes.
-Respond to customers emails.

Suggestions for visitors:
-Don't visit on an open cockpit day, there is even more clutter and the displays seem to be pushed together to make more room for tables and temporary displays.
-Call to check on restoration hanger availability.

Nice pics Bill!
Thanks for posting them!
I see you must have been there on an open cockpit day. Those days tend to have even more clutter with people bringing in various private exhibits and demonstrations.
