The MK II Lanc with Bristol Hercules engines. Everyone I ever met who flew this version liked it much more than the Merlin engined versions.

Shhhh! Don't tell Bill or he'll have to put a Hercules on his Spit.

Great Pic, but what is a Lancater?
It is a slightly shorter version of the Lancaster!

I wasn't aware that they ever built those with round motors!

About 300 of them in case of a shortage of Merlins. Slightly faster but a lower ceiling IIRC.

A "Lancater" is a Lancaster that fell on it's "S".

I thought it would be a Manchester

We all know the Manchester was the twin engined predecessor to the Landscatter with three tails and Vulture engines as I recall. Lots of stuff was altered to make the Manchester into a Lanc, like wingspan, tail grouping, engines. Sort of polishing a turd and getting something much better than a shiney turd....
