The Group 44 hangar

Here are some pictures I took a few weeks ago when I went to see the Group 44 hangar and talk to Bob. I have been going to look at Bob's airplane collection for years and he is always very nice and takes time to talk with me. Enjoy the pictures!

I assume thats Bob Tullius ex SCCA road racer correct? Looks like he did OK after climbing out of the SILK CUT Jags-

Bob is a former Trans Am driver and owned and drove several race teams in his racing career. The Group 44 GTP cars were awesome but out of it for Jaguar before the Silk Cut cars hit the circuit. Bob drive Dodge Darts in Trans Am racing; later a great series of running Triumph’s and even NASCAR racing for one season. Group 44 has a lot of cool racing history with lot of well known drivers having driven these cars.

I have had the great pleasure of flying with Bob in his P51 Donald Duck and rides in the WACO, T6, and T28.

Yes the inspector, This is Bob Tullius's hangar. He started racing Jaguars in 1974 in SCCA racing before going on to win the Trans-am championship for Jaguar in 1977 and 1978. He then went on to own and drive GTP cars in IMSA until 1986 (or 87 I can't remember exactly right now) when the Jaguar contract was taken from him and given to TWR (the silk cut sponsored cars). In my opinion taking the contract from him was one of the biggest racing mistakes Jaguar ever made but I wont get into that .

As silverplate said a super nice guy and always a pleasure to talk to.

Used to enjoy watching him fly his P-51 "Donald" up and down the east
coast. Hard to believe it's been about 5 years since he donated it to the
RAF Museum.

Looking close at the yellow T-6, I see a "Donald" of sorts is still flying in
that a smaller version of the Donald Duck nose art is just visable below the
prop in this photo of Rob's.

Even I remember Tullius from the old days. Used to race with him in the early 60s. I drove an Alfa. Now THAT was sports car racing when pretty much anyone could put a car on the track.

Don't want to side track too much, but the wife & I will be returning to Road Atlanta the first weekend in May for The Walter Mitty Challange vintage car races.

Wls3 - that is the same nose art of Donald that was on his P-51 just in smaller form. Nice way to remember his previous mount in my opinion.
