Colombian PBY

Was looking at the Fly Past issue with the PBY survivors. They had a mention of a ex-Colombian A.F PBY that is derelict in Bogota at the A.F.B. Any one have info on it? Photos? Or is it full of cocaine and having chickens running through it?

ya its pretty sad that many "warbirds" were used in the smuggling busness. Although interesting to find out what werer all used for that. I know Davis-Manthom did have a C-130 that was used for some type of drug trafficing.

Quite a few years ago in an Air Classic mag had a story of some drug dealer flying a P-40. The picture showed him running the P-40 without the cowling! But he went missing and I am guessing he crashed in the jungle or something. Unless there is more to that who knows. :?:

cheers,
Nathan

There is not a shred of evidence that I know of that links this PBY with any nefarious activity so let's not start any urban myths! It is a former Fuerza Aerea Colombiana aircraft and I think was just put on the Barroblanco, Madrid dump when it was retired, It donated some parts to the rebuild of PBY-6A FAC612 which became HK-2115P and is still extant although not currently flying (this one was implicated in some drug running activity!).

The one on the dump is PBY-5A FAC619 c/n 1817 ex-N1518V and BuAer46453
