This brief music-video tribute to WWII veterans really helped bring home the meaning of the phrase, "the price of freedom."

http://www.managedmusic.com/Music/PlayBeforeYouGo.php

A lot of young soldiers - kids in their teens and twenties - were KIA, physically maimed for life, and witness to unspeakable horrors during WWII. That is the cost of freedom. Look at the privileges that today's youth enjoy. It was paid for - dearly - by the sacrifice of their grandparents' generation.

And as one final thought. I recently saw a picture of 20-something Stevie Hinton, Jr. flying a P-51 the other day, and thought, "he is way too young to be flying that!" And then I remembered that all the pilots who fought and died in Mustangs were the same age as Stevie.

He's 19 years of age, wow. I was still dreaming about taking lesson to learn how to fly at that age.... Well done Stevie...

Way cool. Thanks Zagi-2. I remember, in the 60's, bringing home a library book that had the picture of the sailor bent over the gun tub in death and tears started to come out of my dad's eyes when he saw it and he pretending they were from smoke from his cigarette.

A contemporary (during WWII) tribute to these men, can be seen by reading the names of the and the biographies of the men who the Destroyer Escorts (DE) were named for. You see so many examples of heroism and sacrifice. It's definitely awe inspiring.

The best index I've found is Navsource.org. Browse through it, I've spent literally hours on the website.
