Warbird Information Exchange

In june I'll be taking a roadtrip/honeymoon trip throught seattle. I've got some ideas of what to see but thought might get some suggestions from the wix members for other things to sse.

I'm up in Canada, I'll be driving through BC to see the hampden in Langley. In Seattle I'd like to see The museum of flight, the flying heritage collection, and the stormbirds 262's. Then hopefully to oregon to the evergreen Museum and the goose.

The Heritage collection says they are reopening this spring. Anyone have info about this? Anything else anyone can suggest to see? I'm probably already pushing things with the soon to be wife with this list, but if there is something really cool I'm missing let me know.

They're having their annual Gathering of Warbirds June 14 & 15 which is always a good time.

Also the Museum of Flight Restoration Center at Paine Field, Everett.

Restoration Center (Located 30 minutes north of Museum)
Museum of Flight staff and volunteers work daily to preserve aviation history at our Restoration Center on Paine Field in Everett, Washington. Projects such as the de Havilland Comet, FM-2 Wildcat, the XF8U-1 Crusader, the Boeing 727 prototype, and the Link trainers are recent examples of restoration efforts. On display are the Boeing 247D, Heath Parasol, and many other aircraft. The Restoration Center is open Tuesday through Thursday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Restoration Center is closed on Fridays, Sundays and Mondays. Restoration Center Location: 2909 100th St. SW, Everett, WA 98204.

Directions: Take exit 186 from I-5, go west on 128th. 128th becomes Airport Rd. Continue to 100th St. SW. Turn left onto 100th. Building is immediately on right.

I heard that some of the Flying Heritage birds have been on the move and more will be flying in next week. Not sure when they'll be open to the public again.

Heritage of flight (astronaut Bill Anders place, P-51, T-28 FENIC) @ Bellingham Airport, Museum of Flight restoration center @ KPAE in Everett (FM2 mildcat, F7U, TV-1, etc. etc.) Future of Flight also @ KPAE start point for Boeing factory tour, MoF @ KBFI includes tons of warbirds and P. Allens Courage Wing which used to be the Champlin Museum in Mesa AZ. The aformentioned Olympic Flight Museum @ Olympia Airport at Black Lake Exit from I-5 So. If you are exmilitary you can visit McChords wonderful (but not open to the great unwashed) displays @ McChord AFB
Also the Armor Museum across I-5 on Fort Lewis, I think Oregon Air Guard has some stuff @ KPDX in Portland too-

How far south are you headed? If you get to Oregon, there's the Spruce Goose in the museum near Portland, and further south and west there's the collection in the blimp hanger at Tillamook.

Don't miss Tillamook Air Museum if it fits into you time schedule. Lots of cool planes parked inside of what I believe is the largest wooden building in the World, (or definitely in the U.S.). Their website:

That blimp hangar is one of the coolest I have ever seen. There used to be one the Mecoms owned near Hitchcock between Houston and Galveston. I am not sure what if anything is there now.

The blimp hangar near Hitchcock is gone. The four corner pillars are still there, as well as the foundation and some of the small framing on the east side. Someone has built a low building on the west side of the slab. You can still see the layout of the mooring circles in an aerial photo.
