Judging from the looks of the paper, it's from a magazine or newspaper.

Mudge the speculative :?

Gary,

Check out how the bomb sight is mounted high up in the nose glass structure. It looks like it was secured to each side of the optical glass frame.

Cool shot,

Taigh

Yeah, I noticed that. It looks like a "Z" bracket or something, elevating it. That makes more sense than the mount we made for the sight in 927. Of course, we didn't have much to go by, picture or drawing wise, so the fact we got it installed at all (especially in the time crunch we were in) is a miracle. But it's cool to see that the bombsight in the picture on this thread is also one of those big, clunky Sperry sights like the one we have.

Definitely a cool picture. Thanks for posting, Scepter!

Cool pic!

What's the story on those blunt gearboxes? A fairing of some sort to improve engine heating (or cooling?)

Those are actually a poor attempt at an afterbody, of sorts. They were designed to help the cooling air be directed to the cylinders, but didn't do so well. They eventually just took them out, like on the PBY's or Ol' 927.

I found this pic and one of a B-17 on the back side of a framed picture that a bought at a garage sale. It was from a magazine from the 40's I guess.
