As some of you know, AR501 has been resting for a couple of years awaiting an engine rebuild and a major overhaul. I managed to catch a few shots of '501 being stripped and I've included a few shots of the myriad of components being refurbished.

We start with this:

Which becomes this:

More updates as the project progresses. In the meantime, you can read about the restoration on the Shuttleworth Veteran Aeroplane Society website

Wow, neat pictures, Robbo! From the looks of the interior, it looks like it has been a long time since she was restored previously. When was it's last restoration?

I think the last time she was overhauled to this extent was back in the 1970's. Her last repaint was after she appeared in Pearl Harbo(u)r.

Great pictures, Rob!

Even disassembled into a million pieces the Spitfire is graceful. 8)

Did yuo use politically correct, Al Gore, environmentally approved paint stripper?

Has anyone ever seen a polished aluminum Spit? I wonder what it would look like?

First Spit I saw up close when I got to Duxford back in 1980 while in England for a semester of school. Fell in love the minute I saw her. Clipped C Wing at that point. Lead to me picking the XII as my baby with that clipped universal wing.

So if they'd like to send AR501 over to Minnesota for me to take care of her, I will be sure and make the time :)
