If they make the mistake of painting it something other than what its supposed to be they will get a visit from the CURTISS mafia making them a deal they cant refuse.

But don't you think it would look better with a nice big sharksmouth on the front?

Wrong model of P-40, Jack. It needs to be historically accurate.
Just like all those AVG-painted P-40Ns!
PS Nice photo Jack. Any idea who / where / when?

I remember that P-40 from Classic Wings Downunder magazine. What a magazine!!! Anyways, that airplane looked spectacular in the articles that featured it. I hope they keep that paint scheme because I think it looks great!

hey Pete,
I just used Babelfish on altavista.com and it translated the whole page for me.
From the thread it sounds like the P-40 is already in France and those pictures were of it shortly after the crates were opened.
The mention of the P-51 is sort of a response to who purchased it. Loose translation says:
"It belongs to the same Mister who is owner of P-51 D Mustang ' Nooky Booky IV' in Fertac-Alais. It arrives from Australia after a voyage out of container by the sea."
So no, there is no swap, but from the sounds of it, the man who purchased it is a collector. Doing some more research I tracked down that the purchaser is probably a Mr. Baudet of JCB aviation in Nimes, France. Or at least that is who owns "Nooky Booky IV".
There ya go.
Cheers,
David

I can confirme your translation from the french forum.
Concerning the owner, its identity is not known in public. (It's a choice from the owner)
But, I think that the P-51 was sold when it moved from Nimes to La Ferté-Alais, so it's current owner will be different that the people you speak about.

Iclo,
I figured that I got the owner wrong. I reference a list of P-51 survivors to see who owned Nooky Booky IV and it had Baudet's name, but then I kind of ignored the little sign that said "sold" considering the warbirdregistry.org site didn't have any info on it's sale.
So, a mystery collector. Do you know if the P-51 is currently being flown, and will that also be the intention for the P-40?
Cheers,
David
