Painted with the flaps down (or partially down) I suppose?

Nice shot; how common was it for pilots to fly in those style hats as opposed to the leather helmets? Or was this a test hop or something?

Gr8 shots, but it ain't the same plane in both shots.

1. Second a/c's letter ain't "M" ... "K" or "R", from this angle.

2. In the first shot, the "M" is much closer to the bar of the national insignia than the letter in the second photo.

3. Two clearly defined oil streaks under the national insignia in the first shot - missing from second shot.

There's a couple more little differences, but I gotta admit, the exact angle of both shots makes this a tough call - but I'll rest my case with the three cites above.
