it's nice to read a local's veiw on whats going on up there, without forward thinkers like this and others then the future generations would have none of the aircraft to see in the flesh,i hope that the solomans ww2 museum doeas open as it's the best chance for ant future tourist to see any artifacts left from the war(png should look at doing a similar thing)for with the help of warbird owners and restorers both the islands and tourists and we airshow go'ers will get to see some of these airframes up and close(the thought of seeing a pete or betty in the air is somthing i've been wanting to see since i read the charlse darby book of wrecks in the south pacific)and therefore a win/win for both the solomans and the warbird comunity.

cmon fellas stop bitching and backstabbing the guys been caught out and square.

He is trying to do something merge to help the warbird community tho it maybe dogdy and unethical.

Still i support the removal of the wrecks. Sooner they are stored and cleaned and fixed it will save the history.

i dont get why the local museum itself can restore these aircraft. Are they that poor or just don't have the experienced man power? Someone should just go down there an propose this to them and help them out to preserve there past and put these whatever type aircraft in a musuem in there city where ever that maybe.

You are assuming a simple solution to an exceedingly complex problem. There is no way in the world that a poor country such as that can afford to put in any kind of musuem or restoration facility without SIGNIFICANT funding. Do you really think that anyone in the government would be able to look at it's citizens and tell them that they are putting in a museum and restoration facility instead of providing for it's citizens' basic survival needs? Even if an outside entity provided millions of dollars to pay for such a facillity, no one will come see it without a significant improvement to the islands's infrastructure. Let's see, no hotels, no restaurants, no modern conveniences will equal no tourists or visitors. Only the most die-hard enthusiasts or history buffs would brave a trip to a Third World country to see that. To get something of this magnitude started would require a HUGE multi-national corporation to invest hundreds of millions of dollars to jumpstart a tourism based on World War II history.

Probably a true statement, unless they start "selling off" some of the airplanes, like apparently has happened in this exchange. I'm not real optimistic. I believe that except for a few exports, the vast majority of the warplanes in the Southwest Pacific and PNG will disintegrate or be scrapped within the next 20 to 30 years.
