A2 flying jacket art - 'kills'

Sun Feb 10, 2008 1:24 am

G'day folks,

Does anyone have pics of the art painted on A2 jackets, in particular 'kill' symbols? I'm painting a jacket for a friend and have painted the girl and title, just need to know what symbols were common. Of course, I have plenty of shots of the aeroplanes themselves, I'm just wondering whether the standard German Balkenkreuz was more common than a swastika in a circle?

Any advice or pics are much appreciated.

Cheers,
Matt

Hi Matt.

Does the jacket artwork represent an actual combat aircraft? If it does, then I'd imagine someone might have a picture featuring the actual kill marking style of that particular aircraft. Maybe someone like Jack Cook. My jacket has the swastika in the white circle style used by Walter Beckham. My buddy's jacket has the balkenkruez used by Frank Klibbe. I believe some guys used the whole nazi flag like Gabraski. Please someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I've observed that early war kills featured more swastikas, then a move to more balkenkruez later in the war. Makes me wonder if higher ups might have censored the swastikas. Just a thought. Anyway, if you can't find a picture, just ask your buddy what he prefers. You can't really go wrong, they're all pretty cool.

Yo Slugg...
I looked on the www.flightjacket.com web site under "Nose Art" where they have examples of some of the jackets they've done. (Mine's the "Happy Jack's Go Buggy")
I thought they might have some examples but the only thing they've got is "Bomb Run" symbols.

I'm with Todd. Whatever the guy is gonna' be happy with.

Mudge the researcher :D
