Wildcat kill markings?

Fri Feb 01, 2008 11:13 pm

Did any Wildcats or Martlets in the ETO/MTO have kill markings (German, Vichy, Italian)?

Plenty of 'Martlet' kills. Wildcats over Oran is the title of a book by a USN pilot (recently re-issued) so I presume they tangled with the Vichy French, Germans and maybe Italians.

As to markings, I don't think they were common in the Fleet Air Arm, and I don't know about the USN in the Med.

I just got the Osprey Wildcat Aces book, and was just curious. How about on other MTO aircraft, there were lots of crosses and swastikas, but I don't ever recall seeing a Vichy kill marking, maybe an Italian?
