I would hate to taxi that 47 down that strip!

Great shot of Bassingbourn, wartime home of the "Memphis Belle"!
Sadly, today, most of the runways are gone but the area in the photo is still very much intact.

Yeah, looks like a great sports car racing track but an awful taxiway for a taildragger!

Interesting shot, especially the Noorduyn UC-64 Norseman.

The Jug has an "L" on the fuselage. Does that make it an L-Bird?

Happy Friday, y'all. . . 8)

Why is that? You have a natural S-turn built into the taxiway. If it was a straight taxiway the pilot would have to do lots of S-turning anyways.

I would have thought a constant radius, like a carrier approach, would have yielded the best visibility in front of you.

Actually no, when you are taxiing a taildragger, you have to S turn..to the left so that you can see ahead and to the right of you......

but then the situation on your left is now hidden from you so you have to S-turn to the right to have a look off to the left....And you turn enough to provide a little overlap straight ahead.

and so on til you get to the runup area or ramp.....

You notice everyone is standing at attention in front of the planes. Must be a posed shot. No flag on the flag pole and they're not facing it either.

You'd think I would know that by now with about 250 hours of taildragger time including Stearmans and a Cessna 195.
