No, but Fred told me the story himself. Apparently some of the locals had been taking potshots at his plane on short final to Compton so he was planning a little revenge. Not sure if it ever happened though, stories like that can get embellished a bit in a crowd of pilots.

I used to fly into Compton a fair bit, bringing in planes for maintenance. I'd hang out while they'd do a 100 hour inspection - I was doing anything to build time. I was told under no circumstances to leave the airport, and the bullet hole in the front door made me believe.

Why? Are they letting him fly Air Force One again?

A pilot was killed walking outside of Compton Airport after dark some years back.

A friend of mine used to keep his Beechcraft there. After one fourth of July he found a bullet hole in his aileron, but only on the upper surface. Some of the urbanites found amusement by shooting their guns in the air, not caring if they came down on someone's aileron, or their head... He now bases the plane in Fullerton for obvious reasons.
