Has Gary seen this shot?

It seems as frustrating as ever in terms of actual details, but the metalwork looks just like Gary's!(It's obviously not the right model of B-24 into LB, but the back end looks the same as our interest...

There's a downloadable TIFF, with maximum detail, on the LoC website under the 'persistent URL' link below the picture.

Not an "A" model. Notice the top turret hole in front of the wing? If I remember correctly, this is one of the early C-87's that was produced after the mods were made to Ol' 927 to turn it into a transport and they liked what they saw.

I've got a picture somewhere of the completed tailgunner's section from the airplane pictured above. Although it's similar, it's not like the one on our airplane. I reckon Second Air Force (Scott) should know more details than I do about this mod they did.

I believe all the C-87s were conversions of B-24Ds. For the tail, they simply added a sheet metal fairing where the turret would normally go.

Gotta love the fixture tooling on either side of the wing, inboard wing near fuselage and below the rear fuselage.
There to keep everything straight and true.
I'm currently building a fixture for the P-51 horizontal and I'm going nuts with the measuring.
